Carved from dark basalt, the tray’s surface is carved to resemble the interlace of woven bamboo mats. The tray is supported by two asymmetrical supports of natural bamboo lumber, made from laminating multiple strips of bamboo together to form a solid and contrastingly beautiful foundation for the stone tray. A gradual slope drains water towards a line of small outlets near one edge of the tray.
Kyusu is the Japanese word for teapot, but has come to refer specifically to teapots with a single side handle. The beautiful grey glazing of the teapot has small hairline crackles that appear white when new, but will deepen in color with use, giving the entire teapot the appearance of antique stone or jade.
